Victim of doxxing: what should you do?

Practical steps to preserve evidence, report content and seek support.

04 · Support pathway

Have you been targeted by doxxing?

Take things one step at a time. You do not have to manage the situation alone: your safety comes before collecting evidence.

Step 1

Assess any immediate danger

If there is a credible threat or physical risk, move to a safe place and contact emergency services in France on 17 or 112. Contact someone you trust if that helps.

Step 2

Preserve evidence

Save full URLs, usernames, dates and times, contextual screenshots, messages and witness details. Keep original files somewhere secure. Avoid publicly resharing the exposed information to denounce it.

Step 3

Report the content to the platform

Choose the most relevant category: disclosure of private information, harassment, threats or illegal content. Keep the case number and response. Request removal where justified.

Step 4

Contact the appropriate authorities

PHAROS can receive reports about certain illegal public content in France. An online report is not the same as filing a criminal complaint. You can contact the police or gendarmerie, or write to the public prosecutor. Present the facts chronologically and attach relevant evidence.

Step 5

Ask for support

Consider contacting a victim-support organisation, a lawyer or a trusted person. You can also review the practical resources and official contacts listed on this website.

Remember: do not put yourself at risk to collect evidence. If you feel in immediate danger, prioritise safety and emergency assistance.
