Report harmful content online

The right contact depends on the type of content, the platform hosting it and the outcome you are seeking.

Two different processes: reporting a post to a platform or requesting removal from a publisher or host is not the same as asking a search engine to de-index it.

Depending on the situation

Who should you contact?

1

Content published on a website or social network

Contact the publisher and use the platform's reporting tools

Look for legal notices, a privacy policy or a reporting form. Describe the facts precisely, provide the URL and request removal or restricted access. Keep a copy of your request.

2

Doxxing and disclosure of personal information

Report the content and exercise your rights

Identify the information concerning you, where it appears and why publication is harmful. Mention any associated threats or calls for harassment. You may rely on rights under the GDPR where the conditions are met.

3

Potentially illegal public content in France

PHAROS and the competent authorities

PHAROS accepts reports about certain potentially illegal public content. It does not replace filing a criminal complaint and is not an emergency service. In immediate danger, contact emergency services.

Keep a record: save the URL, date, report reference and any response. Avoid reposting the harmful content publicly.
